A review of today's modern fashion, design, and style.

Great Gatsby Fashion

Since the release of Baz Luhrmann’s remake of The Great Gatsby in May, it seems we’re all taking inspiration from the roaring 20’s. And although the women looked super glamorous, it’s the men’s fashion that’s trending, and I love it! The polished male style of the 1920s doesn’t have to look old fashioned or out-of-date and can be easily incorporated into any wardrobe with a few key pieces.

The Three Piece Suit
Matching suit trousers, jacket and waistcoat are a must. Hackett does this beautifully in a clean crisp cream. Perfect for summer, just watch out for grass stains!

The Centre Crease Trousers
It was very cutting edge in the 20s to have a centre crease in your trousers and the Brooks Brothers do it best for adding an extremely sophisticated piece to your wardrobe.

The V Necked Sweater
During the 20s, sporting wear started to integrate into everyday wear and the V neck sweater came straight off the golf course and into the wardrobe. Wear over a shirt for smart causal affairs.

The Cable Knit Cardigan
We’ve all seen the trend of guys wearing a knitted cardigan grow and grow in recent years. Lets thank the fashionable men of the 20s for this.

The Bow Tie and Handkerchief Combo
Nothing screams dapper more than a bow tie/handkerchief combo. The men of Hackett looking stunningly well groomed as always. Be daring and go for bright colours and patterns.

The Collar Pin
Ralph Lauren make the collar pin look so cool, I can’t see why every guy doesn’t have at least one of these…personally I would have a whole collection.

The Suspenders
Think Chuck Bass and you’re sorted. Stripes are a big 1920s favourite but you can get suspenders in so many colours you might as well try a different pair every day of the week!

The Pocket Watch
Back when the pocket watch was a time keeping necessity, they were a statement of wealth and class. Now-a-days with our mobile phones at hand 24/7 we don’t see many people sporting a classic pocket watch. But for those brave enough to wear such a statement piece, on the whole they look pretty darn good.

The Two-Tone Brogues
Brogues were the go-to shoe for well dressed men. Go for a white and brown two tone or keep it classic with monochrome. Look to Brooks Brothers for the perfect pair.

The Sunglasses
Get yourself a pair of round sunglasses to mix a little bit of the 1920s with your own style. Robert Patternson pulls them off so well.

The Hair
We’re seeing the ‘Jay Gatsby’ slicked back hair on the likes of David Beckham and Daniel Radcliffe but my favourite celebrity pulling off the ultra styled Gatsby hair style is Eugene McGregor in his GQ cover shoot.
