A review of today's modern fashion, design, and style.

The Winter Furs

There will always be the moral debate and contrasting views on fur used in fashion, but with winter in full force and an ever improving faux fur industry as well as a wide selection of vintage fur on offer, we thought we’d check out the many ways designers are using fur to create glamorously warm garments.

The Coat

Dennis Basso’s interesting twisted black and midnight blue fur coat creation looks beautiful clinched in at the waist, with opaque black tights and suede shoe boots. It’s the perfect coat for a dramatic entrance into any party.

This blonde and brown Marni coat with three-quarter length sleeves is another great coat to pair with a belted waist. Try tan, orange or a rich brown belt to show off your waist and add a long pair of gloves to keep your forearms as toasty as the rest of your body.

Why not go full Eskimo in a mixed fur patchwork coat and full hood, as seen in Moncler Gamme Rouge’s AW13 collection.

The Cuff

Albino gives a simple grey tweed coat an elegant twist with three quarter length sleeves ending in a wide white and grey fur cuff. Such a chic yet understated coat that’ll carry you though winter.

Matthew Williamson brightens up our dull winter by bringing a pop of colour and pattern to our wardrobes. By adding a single contrasting pink fur cuff to the yellow coat he creates an exceptional asymmetric feature which is really striking.

The Collar

The wonderful thing about fur collars is you can add them over any coat or jacket to instantly update it and keep your neck snug! Go for a colour that subtly blends in or be bold with a contrasting yet complementary style for a truely luxourious look.

The Dress

Want to make a killer first-fashion-impression? Then this Napsugar Von Bittera fur and feather dress is a must. The hints of blue and green give it amazing depth and worn with a wide belt and leather trousers adds so many interesting textures, people will be coming up and wanting a feel all night!

The Skirt

If you dare to try a fur skirt like this Marni brown one, then keep your top half sleek and simple with a belted waist to balance out the fuller fabric around your hips.

The Scarf

In Marni’s AW13 collection there was a lot of colour play, especially with the ankle length 2-tone scarves. Maybe not the most practical scarf but a definite attention grabber!

The Hat

You don’t have to be in Russia to rock a fur hat. This Nonoo black hat looks super cute worn with a cream knitted jumper and black and grey a-line skirt. Mix it up a bit and try hats in different colours. Not only are they an amazingly warm item of clothing and a great alternative to the hood, but they also look uber high fashion and can finish off a winter outfit perfectly.
